Popular Medical College (PMC) is located in a prime location of Dhaka City, Dhanmondi, capital of Bangladesh. Popular Group, a healthcare company in Bangladesh, has established this medical college with the aim to
provide health care to the needy and underprivileged people. It is a private medical college in Bangladesh which has been established in the year 2010. Popular Medical College is affiliated with the University of Dhaka
as a constituent college.
Popular Medical College offers 5 years course of study of Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. A 1-year internship after having MBBS course is also compulsory for all graduates. The degree of MBBS is
recognised by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.

Curriculum and Academic Calendar
Curriculum and academic calendar are given to all students enabling them to understand the schedule for the year.
Phase-I
- Duration: 1.5 years.
- Subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry & Community Medicine.

Assessment: Through First Professional MBBS examination, to be held and results to be published within the time period of the academic years. Students are examined for Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry.
Phase-II
- Duration: 1 years.
- Subjects: Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine plus Medicine with Pediatrics, Surgery with Orthopedics and Trauma.
- Assessment: Through Second Professional MBBS examination, to be held and results to be published within the academic year. Students are examined for Community Medicine & Forensic Medicine.
Phase-III
- Duration: 1 years.
- Subjects: Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Medicine including allied disciplines. Surgery including allied disciplines. Obstetrics & Gynecology.
- Assessment: Through Third Professional MBBS examination, to be held and results to be published within the academic year. Students are examined for Pathology, Microbiology and Pharmacology.
Phase-IV
- Duration: 1.5 years.

Subjects: Medicine including allied disciplines (Dermatology, Psychiatry, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neuro-medicine etc.) plus Pediatrics. Surgery including allied disciplines (Paediatric
Surgery, Urology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Neurosurgery etc.) plus Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Ophthalmology (Eye), Otolaryngorhinology (ENT). Obstetrics & Gynaecology including Family Planning.

Assessment: Through Final Professional MBBS examination, to be held and results to be published within the academic years. Students will be examined for Medicine including allied disciplines & Pediatrics.
Surgery including allied disciplines Ophthalmology (Eye), Otolaryngology (ENT). Obstetrics & Gynecology including Family Planning.
Criteria for Appling in Popular Medical College
- SSC / equivalent examination mark sheets.
- HSC / Equivalent examination mark sheet.
- Equivalence certificates of the above mark sheets from the Director Medical Education, DGHS of Bangladesh.
- No objection certificate from the Ministry of Education of the respective country of the candidate.
- No objection Certificate from the Medical and Dental Council of the respective country stating their permission to study in Popular Medical College.
- All candidates must complete their admission formalities within the specified date stated in the notification.
- Candidates may also apply through any authorized agency. In such case the submission of required papers and organizing the admissions shall be the agency's responsibility.
General Rules for students in Popular Medical College
- Popular Medical College, Hospital and Hostel Campus is a non-smoking zone. Smoking is absolutely prohibited in the college, hospital and hostel campus and treated as punishable offence.

Political activities are not permitted in the college, hospital and hostel. Organization in the name of Union, Association or Society other than those set by the college authority are forbidden. Any attempt of
such activity is treated as punishable offence.

Fixing and or hanging of posters, distribution of leaflets, pamphlets etc. within the college, hospital and hostel premises are strictly prohibited unless permitted by the authority. These are treated as gross
indiscipline & the offendersx` are liable to punishment.
- All types of demonstration, procession, shouting in the college, hospital and hostel premises are strictly prohibited and treated as punishable offence.
- Damage of the college, hospital and hostel property is treated as punishable offence.
- Violation of college rules and regulation is treated as punishable offence.
Library rules
Students are allowed to use the library from 8AM to 8PM on all working days of the week. The library remains close on Fridays, national holidays and holidays declared by the college office.
Student's participation in co-curricular activities
Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities such as:
- Literary activities like debates, seminars, scientific fair, publications of periodic wall magazine, annual magazine etc.

Students Guidance
- To help and guide the students in academic matters like studies, examination, attendance & conduct, a batch of 3-5 students are placed under a teacher as guide.
- Students are advised to meet their guide teacher frequently for any academic or personal matters or whenever asked by the Guide Teacher.
- Private tuition by faculty members is strictly prohibited.
College Discipline
Students must observe strict discipline in the college, hospital & hostel campus and also outside as instructed by the college administration.
On disciplinary grounds the following penalties may be imposed on a student, depending on the nature of offence -
- Warning.
- Fines.
- Both warning & fines.
- Signing of bond.
- Suspension from the college.
- Expulsion from the college.
- Penalty / penalties imposed on students will be recorded in his / her transcript / testimonial.
Student Attandance
- Attendance of all students is compulsory.
- Attendance of all students are recorded in attendance registers.
- Student shall have to take prior permission for any kind of leave by showing a valid reason.

- The Medical College library is spacious enough to accommodate ample reading space for present and future students and holds essential latest edition text books including reference titles and others.
- It remains open even for evening studies under the guidance of a teacher.
- A spacious reading room has been incorporated with the library where students can study even during extra hours.

for the college.
- This medical centre provides regular medical check-up, emergency and on demand medical facilities up to specialist service and hospital admissions if required.

The services of the medical centre are open from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm and is available to all students free of charge. Emergency medical services are provided by the Popular Medical College Hospital round the
clock.

Simulated medical skill Centre
- Presently clinical teaching has shifted from the hospital wards to the simulated skill Centre worldwide for the beginners.
- After acquiring an essential initial hand on training in a simulated skill lab the medical students shift their clinical training onto the clinical wards for further improvement of their skills.
- In order to ensure quality assurance Popular Medical College has established its own Simulated Medical Skill Centre in a designated separate area for initial training of the clinical students.
- Basic clinical skills in medicine & allied, surgery & allied and Obstetrics & Gynecology have been identified, simulation materials have been procured and basic skills program have been started.
Popular Medical College Bangladesh Eligibility Criteria
Government of Bangladesh sets certain eligibility criteria for the admission of foreign students to all private and public medical colleges in Bangladesh. We have mentioned below eligibility criteria of Popular
Medical College.
- Need to have passed 12 class standards.
- Must have 17 years old at the end of the year for admission.
- Only one year gap after 10+2 is permissible.
- Also, no gap from 11 standard to 12 is permissible.
- Indian students applying for MBBS from Bangladesh must have Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their primary subjects in class XI and XII.
- Minimum 60% aggregate marks is mandatory required in PCB in class 12th.
- Candidates must possess 60 percent and above in Biology (Life Science) in HSC alone.
- Student must possess 7 (Seven) GPA or above considering both in SSC and HSC (10th and 12th).
