Ternopil State Medical University was established in the year 1957. It first started working as a Ternopil Medical Institute, later it got its status as State Medical Academy on 30th of December in the year 1997. Again after reorganization in the year 2004, the University came to be known as Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University.
The University has been ranked as one of the Top Universities in Ukraine for studying Mbbs by the Ministry of Health. Every Year more than 7000 students, take admission in the University .Among them nearly 2000 of them are Foreign students, who have come from different countries. Due to the majority of the International students in the University, English is the main medium of Instruction.
Lecture halls are all well equipped with modern audio visual system. Practical and Laboratory classes are conducted with minimum 6-7 students. The University is affiliated to many hospitals in the city, where the students can undergo clinical training.
Medium of study is generally conducted in three languages Ukrainian, Russian and English. The University is recognized by WHO , ECFMG, and FAIMER. The degree obtained by the University is recognized all over the world.
Ternopil State Medical University has partnership with many foreign institutions. The University has adopted the American Nursing Programme in Ukraine which involves the exchange programme with the University of South Carolina Upstate (USA). Generally it offers two degrees:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which is a four years degree programme and Associate degree in Nursing, which is a two years programme.
Ternopil, the city in Western Ukraine was founded in 1540.The city is full of natural charms and is a quite city. The city is a mix of architectural styles from XIX century till nowadays. The distinctive feature of Ternopil is its lake surrounded by parkland and recreational areas. The city is famous for growing sugar beets and other types of crops such as wheat and canola. It has a very fertile land for growing vegetables. The region has good Industries also which include synthetic leather production, food processing, clothes, and manufacturing of electrical components, textile, and building materials. From Ternopil, one can easily reach some of the most beautiful natural areas, such as Carpathian Mountains and Dnister River, historic sites (castle and the Lviv city center) as well as the neighboring countries and some nearby cities of Ukraine. Ternopil is an Educational hub for students , it is a home for students with Universities as well as numerous institutes, colleges and schools in the city. Students are a large part of Ternopil’s population. Foreign students in addition add more vibrancy to the cities culture and tradition. Most of the city’s educational facilities and campuses are situated in walking distance. Ternopil is a place where one can receive high quality education while enjoying life in a pleasant and peaceful environment.
Accommodation is offered to the Students in the University hostel. In one room two to three students can adjust. All rooms are filled with full facilities for the students. The student can use the library, gym, laundry and internet facilities. All these expenses are included in the hostel fees.
On the floor of the student dorm free internet service is available for the students. It is also possible to get an internet connection directly in the room through ISP. Students can actively participate in sports and other cultural programmes of the University, as well as events taking place in Ternopil and other cities of Ukraine.

The admission process of Ternopil State Medical University is very easy. Interested Students are required to furnish their educational documents for the application process to the University such as passport, 12th marksheet, NEET Score Card and 2 photographs.
After the submission of all the documents the student will receive the Admission letter within 2-3 days and Invitation letter from the Minsitry within 15 days.
Next process is to apply for Visa, which takes 10-12 days time.
After the Visa is done the Candidate is ready to fly.
The following eligibility criteria should be met by Indian students in order to get admission in Ternopil State Medical University
In addition, the university demands that the applicant be of sound physical and mental health, testimonials of which have to be furnished at the time of admission. The candidate must be able to provide medical certificates stating the same. The applicant is also required to undergo HIV test as a mandatory clause for admission.
